Mental illness. A person suffering from schizophrenia may experience psychosis, or a loss of reality, due to abnormalities in perception and mental processes. Schizophrenia often manifests in late adolescence or early adulthood and causes hallucinations, delusions, and abnormal thoughts and behaviours.
